Mei Yee handles construction disputes. She brings her expertise to litigation, arbitration, and adjudication processes, offering practical and strategic solutions to clients in the construction industry.

She has experience advising and representing both contractors and developers across residential and commercial projects. Her work involves technically complex disputes, where she collaborates closely with industry experts to navigate issues effectively. She has hands-on experience managing challenges commonly faced in construction disputes, including delays, claims for loss and expense, unlawful termination or self-determination, and set-offs—both at trial and in adjudication.

Beyond dispute resolution, she also advises clients during the contract management stage. She is currently acting for a developer in several joint venture projects, which include advising on, among other matters, the renegotiation of contractual terms.

Fluent in Chinese, Mei Yee leads the firm’s China Desk, where her language proficiency and strong understanding of Chinese business culture have made her a trusted advisor to Chinese clients. Corporate / Civil Disputes

  • Acted for an arbitration institution in the first constitutional challenge to the statutory adjudication regime, reported as Mega Sasa Sdn Bhd v Kinta Bakti Sdn Bhd & Ors [2020] 4 CLJ 201.
  • Acted in multiple actions arising from complex disputes between directors and shareholders of a company operating as a quasi-partnership, including Ng Boon Teik v Chang Tong Lee [2020] 1 LNS 1135.
  • Acted for a quarry company in a dispute arising from a quarry agreement, reported as Sunway Quarry Industries Sdn Bhd v Pearl Island Vista Sdn Bhd & Anor [2019] MLJU 400.
  • Acted for a company in an action against a former director for breach of fiduciary duties, reported as Superplas Technology Sdn Bhd v See Chou Shon [2017] MLJU 980.
  • Acted for the former director of an arbitration institution in suits challenging his appointment to office.
  • Acted for a telecommunications company in a claim brought by a shareholder in defiance of an arbitration agreement.
  • Acted for a company and its director in a corporate dispute arising from a profit-sharing arrangement involving novel legal questions concerning trust and fiduciary duties.
  • Defended one of Malaysia’s largest telecommunications providers in a suit involving allegations of fraudulent trading and discovery actions.
  • Acted for a financial advisory firm and a financial advisor in a professional negligence suit involving offshore investments.
  • Represented an elevator provider in a corporate dispute involving approximately RM26 million arising from a joint venture arrangement.

Employment & Industrial Relations Disputes

  • Acted in a highly publicised dispute involving a Chinese educationist in Malaysia.
  • Advised an association and several banking institutions on matters relating to employee termination.
  • Acted for an oil and gas multinational company in a judicial review proceeding before the High Court relating to the Minister’s reference for an unjust dismissal claim, reported as ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc. v Menteri Sumber Manusia & Ors [2019] MLJU 614.
  • Advised an oil and gas multinational company on employment issues, particularly on domestic inquiry processes.
